Help the Forum Cinema to bring the 2017 Wide Skies Film Festival back into Hexham Abbey

In June 2016 talented Brazilian pianist Tony Berchmans of CINEPIANO won over the hearts of his audience with his stunning improvised accompaniment to Nosferatu in the spectacular surroundings of Hexham Abbey as part of the first Wide Skies Film Festival.

Only with your help will The Forum Cinema Hexham be able to invite Tony to make a return visit to the town in June 2017.

What we will be doing:

With your help we aim, as part of the second Wide Skies Film Festival, to offer TWO screenings in Hexham Abbey on Friday 9th June, encouraging audiences of all ages to enjoy the experience of Tony's amazing improvisation.

Local resident Simon Frith explains a bit about the magic of the experience

For a family audience Tony will accompany a mixed bill of Charlie Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy and Buster Keaton at 6pm. Tony will introduce the audience to the art of improvisation - silent cinema as it was originally presented.

Our late night screening at 9pm will be the Hitchcock's 1927 silent thriller "The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog" - Starring Ivor Novello and based on the novel by Marie Belloc Lowndes (sister of Hilaire) it is generally acknowledged as the film where the great director found his "voice".

What your money will do:

First and most importantly it will guarantee that we can transform the Abbey into an extraordinary venue for the evening and that these two events can go ahead, while keeping the standard ticket price reasonably affordable ( £10 for 6pm and £15 for 9pm).

As these events will be the highlight of the festival weekend your suppport will help to guarantee the success of the whole festival and allow us to work with local community groups to put on films of their choice and to raise awarenss of the great work that they do in the area.

What we will give you in return for you support:

All our donors will be listed on our website as a sign of our gratitude and appreciation.

By supporting this project you could have the opportunity to meet Tony at an informal and exclusive drinks reception on Thursay 8th June at the Beaumont Hotel or take advantage of some of the other exclusive rewards we are offering including reserved seats in the front few rows which will only be available here.

Why we are asking for your help:

The Forum Cinema Hexham worked with partners Hexham Abbey, Hexham Book Festival and Queens Hall Arts to launch the 2016 Wide Skies Film Festival - a community programmed event in this small market town in Northumberland.

The Forum Cinema is owned by Hexham Community Partnership - the development trust for the town - which depends on profits generated by the cinema to continue to deliver community development and tourism projects in the town.

The cinema provides employment for around 20 individuals in the town and works throughout the year with a wide range of groups and clubs supporting their awareness raising and fundraising efforts.

We always try to keep our ticket prices reasonable so that everything that we offer is as affordable as we can make it for everyone in the community.

We think that putting on such a fantastic production in Hexham Abbey is a great opportunity for the town - but neither we nor our partners can afford to put all of our other work throughout the year at risk so we are asking you all to help us with this exciting venture.  We know that we have an amazing number of loyal and generous supporters out there and we are sure that you will rise to the challenge and help us to reach our target in record time!

Thank you for your help!
