Richmond Borough Council have been conspiring for months and steering the Education Funding Agency (EFA) towards 16 acres of Metropolitan Open Land at Hospital Bridge Road in Whitton for the location of Turing House Free School's new home.
This school is for a catchment area 2 miles away and will only serve 20% of children in Whitton, as laid down in the Admissions policy. This has been done with no consultation whatsoever with locals.
The area already has 6 schools in the immediate vicinity of this site teaching over 2,600 pupils.
There is already bad gridlock at rush hour with the school runs
The road infrastructure is already struggling to cope because of narrow roads.
The 16 acres of Protected Green Space is a haven for wildlife and approximately 30 horses. Some of which have no where to go if this land is built on, they will have to be destroyed. This land is also historically connected to Hounslow Heath Nature Reserve.
Over 2,000 residents have signed an online petition in protest of this move, some signers are from Teddington and Fulwell. They want/need the school but are unhappy with the location when there are more suitable sites nearby.
One such site is Strawberry Hill Golf Club. It's loss making, barely used and owned by Richmond Council. It's a perfect school site but bizarrely wasn't put forward by the council to the EFA.
Building on this much loved local area cannot be allowed to happen; unfortunately, as with everything, our outcries are falling on deaf ears at Richmond Council.
The only way we can possibly stop this school construction is by hiring a Planning Barrister and having the plans called in. This will be a lengthy and expensive process. This is why I have set up this crowd funding page.
I asked everyone who has been involved from the start, your friends, relatives or anyone that cares, please donate whatever you can to our cause so we can fight
