Wey Valley Radio and later Delta Radio broadcast from Alton from 1992 until 2003 when due to change of ownership and management closed down, and the service moved to Haslemere.
Since then a group of local people have been working hard to bring the much missed station back to run as a community station" for the people by the people."
In July 2016 the group was awarded a licence to broadcast on FM to Alton and the surrounding villages for at least 5 years.
The licence has been awarded to a community of interest company with no shareholdings and will run on a not for profit basis and any surplus in revenue being put back into the station.
Its aim will be to be run entirely by volunteers and with the goodwill of organisations in Alton to keep the costs to a minimum.,
The service that is planned will be of entertainment ,news, views and will be a mouthpiece for all community groups ,training will be given to a high standard for all those wishing to take part.
We will also be in a position to promote local businesses and charity organisations in the area.
Before we can commence broadcasting we need a home ,somehwere in Alton, and we need to install a high quality reliable transmission and ip network for us to be able to provide an efficient service, also before we go on air various licences will have to be paid to Ofcom and musicians unions.
It is estimated we will need at least £7,500.00 to achieve this.
Whilst we are approaching the local council for grant funding this cannot be guaranteed and it has been decided that we should ask the community to help raise some funds to help us achieve our initial goal.
If all the population of just Alton donated 50p we would easily reach our target,if you feel you could donate anything ,how ever large or small we would be eternally grateful and the sooner we can reach our targets the sooner we will get on air.
