Stand Up for What Matters
We have set up this Crowdfunder page in order to raise funds for our campaign in the Wansbeck constituency.
Wansbeck Green Party formed in 2015, just shortly before the last General Election. We were only a small number of votes short of retaining our deposit on that occasion, and are hoping to build on that success this time around.
Obviously, this snap election came as a surprise to everyone. Nevertheless, we are pleased to announce that Steve Leyland will be standing as our candidate, but time is short!
DONATE TODAY for a greater green voice in parliament standing up for social, economic, and environmental justice.
It costs £500 to stand a candidate in a General Election. Your donation will help give the people of Wansbeck the opportunity to vote for a Green voice that stands up for genuine tolerance, a sustainable economy, and a fairer society.
Wansbeck Green Party is pleased to be able to offer people the opportunity to vote Green in the coming election but, as a grassroots party with strong ethics, we can't rely on non-doms and big business to bankroll the campaign
In 2015 the Green Party stood more candidates than ever before in a General Election and more than doubled our national vote share. We do not wish to go backwards in this election just because we were not given much notice. We intend to stand in as many constituencies as possible, even 'safe seats', as we need to give people the option to vote Green and to maximise our vote share nationally.
We are looking to raise £1,000. This money will go towards the costs of standing a candidate and spreading the Green message through leafleting and campaign stalls in Ashington, Bedlington, Morpeth and Newbiggin.
Our members and supporters have been active in getting this campaign up and running, but we need your help to ensure that the Green voice is heard and we can protect the future of our NHS, our education services and our environment for our children.
Thank you so much for your support. Whatever the value of your donation it really does make a huge difference.
About our candidate
I am delighted to be standing as the Green Party candidate for Wansbeck in the forthcoming General Election. I am 58 years-old, have lived in Northumberland for the past 36 years, and run a small consultancy business with my wife focussed on IT and education quality management. I am standing for parliament because I want more to be done on combating inequality in our society and wish to push parliament to take firmer action on tackling the looming climate crisis.
As an MP, I would seek to support efforts to localise our region’s economy and make it more sustainable. Our region has great potential to become a leader in the renewable energy revolution and the transition to this new economy will boost job creation. I would also prioritise increasing funding for our vital public services, including the NHS and lifelong education. Wansbeck has so much potential to be a hub for clean energy and a model for a more sustainable economy and way of living; one that strengthens our sense of community.
A vote for the Green Party on 8 June is a step towards making this bright future a reality.
About the Green Party
Just a few of the policies the Green Party stand for are:
- We wish to maintain the NHS as a publicly-owned service and to reverse the current trend of privatisation.
- We wish to invest in renewable energy and move away from fossil fuels.
- We will close loopholes that currently allow corporations and wealthy individuals to avoid paying their fair share of tax.
- We want to see a future without nuclear weapons. We will cancel Trident and put the money towards education, health and housing.
- We would offer a referendum on the final deal of Brexit.
We wish to get our message out by delivering a leaflet through every door in Wansbeck constituency, letting people know they have a genuine alternative to a two-party system which is not working. Please help us to do that by supporting our project.
