Everyone loves to see & hear waders like curlew & lapwings but they're in serious decline. Breeding curlew numbers are down by over 45% in the last 20 years & lapwing down by 58%. Over the next 20 days I'm going for a wander around Scotland to visit nature reserves, farms & sporting estates to see just what's happening to waders. The Wandering will cover over 700 miles as I visit most regions of Scotland including some of the Islands. Most areas I will be visiting will produce eggs but what I want to see is how many waders actually produce strong chicks that will fledge and help population growth. I will be looking at agricultural practices, predator control regimes, temporary fencing and species that kill waders that are currently protected. Every day there will be a short film uploaded to social media and at the end a 30 minute documentary will be produced that will be presented to government. Now the nitty gritty. This wander will cost me money around £30.00 (food & fuel) per day so I'm hoping everyone who enjoys waders will contribute to help out the more raised the better as any surplus funds will go to the GWCT & Gamekeepers Welfare Trust.
