Empowering Future Genreations-by Vimprove

To develop students by tackling current educational challenges

Project aim

To develop students by tackling pressing educational issues.

About the project

Background

Have you ever wondered how you learn to take tests and aim towards the highest grades, before learning how to cope with the daily stress in your life?

Have you ever wished you had been taught how to manage your personal finances, before working nights on end, wondering where your money went?

Have you ever thought life would have been much easier if you had known this one thing before?

Education is one of the most valuable gifts we can bestow upon  someone; it opens our mind to new realities, teaches us how to think independently, and carves a future for ourselves.

Yet there are still issues not addressed in full depth by a conventional education. Things such as:

  • How to handle stress, anxiety and emotional unrest in a variety of situations.
  • How to manage time appropriately and become a highly productive person within any discipline.
  • How to choose a suitable career path which will fulfil personal needs and desires.

Having researched into the sources of concern for students, the following recurring topics were found:

  • Stress and Anxiety
  • Grades and Education
  • Health & Fitness
  • Financial Literacy
  • Career Planning
  • Time management and Productivity

To address these pressing issues; Vimprove, a University of Bristol student society, has come up with a scheme.

A scheme which will not only provide relevant and pragmatic solutions, but will also empower students by developing attitudes and functional skills such as:

  • Leadership
  • Accountability
  • Creativity
  • Teamwork
  • Communication
  • Critical Thinking
  • Decision making

What does the Scheme involve?

By October 2015, 6 focus groups will be created. Each will target  one of the student stressors listed below:

  • Stress and Anxiety
  • Grades and Education
  • Health & Fitness
  • Financial Literacy
  • Career Planning
  • Time management and Productivity

Membership to the focus groups will be made free of charge, and any student enrolled in the University of Bristol will be able to enrol.

Each focus group will work autonomously in the development of a learning module for their allocated stressor. The learning module will contain all the information, exercises and content deemed necessary by each group to educate the community about the topics.

The focus groups are given the authority to decide the types of content to be used in their module. These could include:

  1. Infographics
  2. Video
  3. Practical Exercises with solutions
  4. Podcasts
  5. Trips and Events
  6. Presentations
  7. Scheduled Topic discussions
  8. Flash Cards
  9. Interviews
  10. Board games

The possibilities are endless; however, the goal of the scheme is that of producing clear, self-contained pedagogic solutions.

To ensure  our work is appropriate, suitable as well as in line with present knowledge; we are in contact with experts from the University of Bristol to provide our focus groups with professional support.

As an incentive, a  panel of experts will be invited to assess the groups’ work. Students will have the opportunity to present their ideas and solutions to the board, and will learn, amongst others:

  • what employers are looking for during presentations
  • how to articulate and demonstrate commercial awareness
  • how to persuade audiences.

The panel will decide on the best solution and will grant the focus group with an award.

In recognition of student’s efforts, all members will be issued a certificate of accomplishment which will include:

  1. A personalised recognition of their individual and collective achievements
  2. An endorsement of their distinctive abilities and personality for future use
  3. A life-time membership to Vimprove’s alumni group, and its associated benefits.

Why do we need your support?

Vimprove was constituted on the firm belief  education should be free for everyone.

Anyone should have the right to develop, pursue their interests and become a better version of themselves.

We want to offer free membership for our society, and in doing so we need donations to cover the running costs of the society. This includes:

  • Access to  research resources
  • Seeking external professional support
  • Team building events
  • Issuing certificates and awards
  • Room hire

We need you to make all of this happen.

Build a better future, be part of Vimprove.

Thank you.
