Via Nova, the Birmingham based chamber choir, have been selected to perform at the world renowned Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival as part of the 'shorts' series on Monday 23 November. The choir, who specialise in music with improvisational and experimental techniques, will perform a short programme focussing on the works of Karin Rehqnvist, having worked with the composer during her residency in Birmingham in November.
All of our performers are emerging artists and recent graduates, representing some of the brightest choral vocal talent in the West Midlands. Recent highlights for the choir include a performance with Howard Skempton, broadcast on Radio 3; a collaboration with the Waste Paper Opera Company; and a workshop project with composer portrait concert for Pauline Oliveros. Over the past two years, Via Nova have also delivered the first performances of over 14 new works.
This project presents a fantastic opportunity for Via Nova to perform on a truly international stage. The choir has received very generous support from Birmingham Conservatoire to enable this project but we are looking to raise £500 towards the cost of transport to Huddersfield.
Please consider supporting this exciting venture for the choir and the promotion of new choral music across Birmingham and the UK.
