The Vehicle Edge Protection System (VEPS) is a patented articulating guardrail system to provide fall protection to tradesmen when they access the roof of their 'Transit' type vans to load / unload equipment or materials, minimising the risk of deaths or serious injuries which have resulted from such falls.
Developed by myself, a product design engineer and former HM Inspector of Health and Safety with the HSE, I have developed VEPS through various prototypes, but the next stage is to create 'production' prototypes for final testing and evaluation.
Funds raised through this crowdfunding project (along with Scottish Enterprise grant funding) will be put towards the cost of tooling , fabrication and testing of these prototypes. Once this has been completed the aim will be to license the design and IP to a suitable partner organisation with an established partner in either the automotive or safety equipment sectors.
There are approximtely 700,000 'Transit' sized vans fitted with roof racks in the UK alone. Ultimately, the aim of this project is to save lives -preventing any further deaths and serious injuries occuring from this type of accident.
