Taking a van load of pallets and waterproofs to, and volunteering with, the organisations supporting the refugees in Calais.
About the project
Originally i had planned a trip 26-29 September, getting the bus from London to Calais to volunteer with L'Auberge des Migrants and Secours Catholique, two organisations in Calais who have been supporting refugees for many years, and with whom i have previously worked.
With the worsening of the weather it is apparent that there is more than ever a need for wood and pallets and waterproof clothing, and a call has gone out for people to bring wood, and vans to collect wood.
I have a van. And i have a couple of days to donate my time to wherever its needed. I dont have the money to do the crossing.
The bus would cost £40 return from London. The ferry will cost £80 return, plus fuel. I am putting my £40 in the van for fuel and i am appealing for any spare pennies or pounds you may have to make up the remaining so i can make the most effective use of this time.
I will be booking the cheapest travel possible. Any money raised that exceeds this will be given directly to L'Auberge des Migrants in Calais for their food distributions.
