UWE Formula Student is an educational student project designed to teach and inspire the next generation of engineers.
We are looking to raise money so that our team can make the transformation from a petrol car to the more environmentally friendly electric version ready for the 2016 competition. We are however looking to complete our designs and be ready to start manufacture this summer ready for a class 2 entry at the Formula Student competition at Silverstone.
We are a completely self-funded organisation and although supported by the University of the West of England, we do not receive any funding and are challenged to raise this all ourselves through fundraising and sponsorships.
Formula Student is the largest student motorsport programme in the world, attracting over 130 teams from over 30 countries with world renowned companies such as Mercedes AMG and Shell participating. Students are challenged to design and build a single-seat race car within 12 weeks of design and 12 weeks of manufacture.
UWE Formula Student compromises of 70 students from all disciplines within the University; from Engineering through to Law, Marketing, Business and IT. These fields are all tied together by a faculty adviser from the university providing a crucial link between the team and the university.
Formula Student provides a great opportunity for students to put what they have learned in their degree into real world practice, due to the way formula student is judged not just on the design and engineering behind the car but in the business, marketing and costing side of the project as well.
Come along to our launch event in the last week of June 2015 at the University of the West of England.
