New stretch target
This money is ALSO required to pay back my deposit for my accomodation! By the time I found out about this, I had already made the fundraiser and so was unable to change the goal but because of this, we had to skip our rent to pay the £400 accomodation fee and we've had eviction notices before so if we miss our rent again, we will be homeless. It means the world to me that it has reached a point where my fundraiser has hit £500 and I am sorry to ask for any more. I completely understand if people do not have this money to donate, thank you so much for what you have all already donated
I need to raise money to be able to afford the move to University and the three weeks of living costs before I get financial aid.
About the project
My name is Leanne and I’m from the UK. This is me:
In a month’s time, I’m supposed to be moving to start University. However, the student finance that we’re given to pay for food and rent whilst we are studying isn’t given to me until 3 weeks after I move. This is far too late of a payment for me. I’ve tried contacting the student finance but the date is set for the entire country, and there is no leeway.
This has left me in the situation I’m in now. I come from a single-parent family and my mum is on minimum wage. She suffers from a back condition called sciatica and yet she still scrubs floors, cleans, works hard for barely any money. At home, we’ve just enough money to get by – paying bills is a struggle. It’s a choice between paying the rent or eating. Sometimes we go without food, or I’m forced to bathe in cold water. My home life itself is toxic, my mum is an alcoholic and my home life can become difficult and damaging for me at times, but I won’t talk too much about that – but this crowdraiser would help me to escape a toxic household too. In conditions like this, there’s no way we can gather the money so that I can move to University and live for almost 3 weeks before my student finance. Right now, it’s either raise this money and go, or don’t. I have no choice but to start this fundraiser. We don't have a car and so the cost will have to accomodate transport - which will most likely be a series of cabs and trains (this alone will cost over £150). I work part time, as much hours as they'll give me, but I give the money to my mum in order to pay the rent or buy food. If I didn't do this, we'd be homeless. I wish there was another way that I could do this, because the idea of asking people for money is something I am very unhappy about. Unfortunately, I can't seem to think of another way.
I’m hoping to study Sociology/Social Theory (whatever you want to call it) and my goal eventually is to work in politics and charity, striving towards equality, towards abolishing as much prejudice and racism and white privilege and patriarchy as I can. It’s a long shot, I know, and it’s hard, but it will be impossible without this money to be able to afford the move and the following 3 weeks.
I have a month to gain around £500 which equals around $800. I know it’s a lot to ask for, but if everyone who followed me donated £1 ($1.50), I would have six times the amount of money I need to get through.
With your help, I would be able to escape the conditions I live in now and start my journey to a better life. I would be able to be the first person in my family to attend university, and I would be eternally grateful.
