UNIT A: SuperRural
This year Unit A has focused on everything rural. Our site is located in Teign Valley, Dartmoor National Park. The Teign was once home to a plethora of water powered industries and with that precedent we each explored the industry and proposed new contemporary architecture in this sensitive setting.
Based on thorough research of the area and its people we have all developed new and unique programs that address the central question; what is the countryside for? Or rather, what does progress look like in the countryside? We each drew on the abundance of contemporary regionally specific building techniques and materials to question the pervasive conservatism within National Park planning, as well as wider issues of identity, authenticity and the myth of the rural.
With this knowledge into the culture, economy, new business, politics and emerging trends we gained clear eyed view of how the countryside works. Therefore, our proposals for the valley test, provoke and speculate on the future of the countryside as you see it.
All proceeds raised will fund the materials, construction and printing needed to make our exhibition spectacular. Any donations will be much appreciated and we will hopefully see at the exhibition .
