New stretch target
It's happening and that's all down to you. Trathik will now be printed and start its journey, hopefully educating and reeducating us all in the basics of road safety.
Vote to add one or both of the game squares shown. You can also vote to say whether these squares will only appear on the first edition of the game or not. This vote is only open yo Crowdfunder backers.
Add a set of Pass Plus Scheme Cards, a reward for completing your Pass Plus course. Doubles the value of the dice you throw, when used.
Add a set of Highway Code Rule Cards. Instead of a question, a Highway Code Rule is read out and the player is allowed to throw both dice. Great if younger players are involved.
Add fifty additional question cards taken from the DVSA theory test revision Question Bank.
Road Safety website, a place to print off additional Trathik Driving Licences, find out driving condition facts, advertise your services and hopefully purchase other Trathik products.
A board game that intends to educate and reeducate all players in the various aspects of road safety without them even realising.
Trathik is a road safety board game which was designed to educate and reeducate all road users through its many question cards, taken from the DVSA theory test revision Question Bank. Created by myself Andrew Watson over the last seven years, the game was originally designed to aid my sons in learning to drive but it soon became obvious that Trathik had a wider audience and could also benefit pedestrians, cyclists and even horse riders.
I have been fortunate in my career as a signmaker over the past thirty plus years, to work for a traffic management company, which gave me the tools required to create this game and progress it to its current format. We have tried to give Trathik a complete driving experience, with everything from licences, driving offence points, speed awareness information and much more.
Manufacturing a small run of board games is very expensive with most of the initial costs coming from set up, artwork etc. and that is why we are asking for the backing and support of the Crowdfunder community. Together we can impart this road safety knowledge throughout our local communities, which is paramount in keeping our family and friends safe on our roads.
Why do we wait until our children are of an age to learn to drive before we truly address the issue of road use. If we encourage our young to adopt safer behaviour around our roads, at an earlier age and install this knowledge as a life skill, will it not save lives?
Each player chooses a coloured car, receives a speed awareness scheme card and takes a driving licence, which they personalise as instructed. Shuffle the question cards and place to one side of the board. Youngest player starts the game and play then passes to the left.
The object of the game is to be the first player from point A on the board to reach point B, with the least or no driving offence points on their licence.
On your turn you are asked a road safety question from the pack of cards supplied and if answered correctly, roll both dice and move to the square as indicated. Should you answer the question incorrectly, you roll only one dice and again move to the square as indicated.
The square you land on will determine what you have to do next. You must place your car on the lefthand side of the square, as you move around the board and may only place your vehicle on the righthand side of a square if the left is already occupied by another car.
Once you have landed on a square and there are no instructions to perform a task, this is the end of your turn. The next player then performs the same operation as the previous person, question, dice rolling and so on, unless you have previously landed on a miss next turn square.
Finishing first however with points on your licence, doesn't guarantee that you have won the game. Should the person finishing second have less points on their licence than the person finishing first, they will win the game. It is possible to even win the game finishing in third or fourth place. This scenario won't happen that often but is possible if every player finishes the game with less points on their licence than the player finishing immediately before them.
Should the first player to finish have nine points on their licence, second have six points, third have three points and the fourth player to finish have zero points on their licence, the fourth placed player would be the winner of Trathik.
As I have previously mentioned, producing small runs of games, especially the first edition, is very costly. Add on top of that any royalties that we must pay for using questions taken from the DVSA theory revision Question Bank and the costs to produce Trathik slowly rise. We have obtained various prices over the past few years and have found a games manufacturer that has not only given us the keenest prices but also the best advice on how to produce and design our board game. All of our pledge levels include shipping to the various corners of the globe.
