OUR GOAL: We need £2000 to create and launch an impressive and exciting website for Transfusion Music which will enable us to attract other funders, especially from the corporate sector, as well as other major benefactors. WHO WE ARE: Transfusion Music is a not-for profit community interest company providing innovative educational opportunities using sound and music as catalysts for individual and community learning. We currently offer sound-led courses, activities and events for underprivileged communities in East London where we teach practical music and storytelling skills to support family learning, community cohesion and participation in the arts in a fun and dynamic way. All of the courses and events that are run are completely free. Many of the families that have and will participate have barely travelled much further than the end of the street let alone enjoyed the pleasure of singing with their children, or learning as a family. Through funding and surplus profits we aim to offer this provision freely where needed. We have already helped more than 260 parents and 350 children with amazing results. We have successfully piloted these workshops with families and local authorities and now want to roll them out on a larger scale. We also plan to offer events and outings for families and young people, reaching new audiences and linking music and sound to new cultural experiences. We also offer work to local artists and musicians to help us create our material. We feel that this is an important part of supporting our community in practical ways. We need YOU in order to continue offering these inspiring and transformational courses for children, families and communities. Every donation, no matter the size, is so needed and appreciated!!! ROUND THE ISLAND RACE: To raise money, two of the Transfusion Music board directors will be competing in the Round the Island Race (Isle of Wight) on Saturday, June 30th, 2012. We will be sailing on a J109 yacht, Jynnan Tonnyx. Check out our special endorsement from Olympic Sailor Andrew Simpson! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TO9Ea-ZXrok And you can view exciting videos of the race here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=eqFC1iLDjeg and here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MuDSmCqmKE&feature=player_embedded The race is 57 nautical miles and attracts around 1,700 boats. The route is always the same, start outside Cowes in front of the Royal Yacht Squadron, west to the Needles, south to St Catherines Point, northeast to Bembridge, past the Forts and then west back to the finish line at Cowes. Last year the weather conditions were so extreme that many boats were damaged, numerous people went overboard and hundreds of boats turned back when it became too rough. It was an incredibly tough but rewarding day. We made it across the finish line in under 8 hours, and hope to beat that time this year. We re looking forward to an exceptional day of sailing and fundraising, and hope you ll lend us whatever support you can!
