We are a start-up social enterprise that supports other startups.
We promote, facilitate and support ethical enterprise development opportunities for people from minority ethnic and disadvantaged communities (women, in particular). We help our clients create viable businesses that can become sustainable, make a positive difference to their lives and contribute to developing their local community and economy. We do this through offering support services that prepare our beneficiaries to gain confidence, skills, knowledge and access to opportunities needed to become confident and efficient startup entrepreneurs, with the ability to:
- Run their business successfully;
- Scale up their business;
- Create marketable brands (products or services);
- Identify and access business opportunities.
This is all about developing local economies from the bottom up, making sure community members at grassroots level are empowered to become effective -socioeconomic- agents of change.
Our New Horizon programme consists of a blend of one-to-one and group activities to cohorts of up to 15 learners at a time; they will receive intensive support for a period of six months, followed by six months of light-touch support. Throughout this period, start-up entrepreneurs will have access to:
- Individual learning support: face to face and remote support sessions;
- Group learning support: masterclasses on Leadership, Business planning, Operations, Finance and Marketing;
- Public events: Business to Business (B2B) and Meet the Buyer networking events, as well as Test Trading opportunities at a local pop-up marketplaces;
- Consultancy surgeries for follow-up support.
We are looking for funding to deliver a pilot of our New Horizon programme to a cohort of 15 startup entrepreneurs from Southwark, one of the poorest areas in London.
This funding opportunity will help us increase capacity to secure contracts from various clients (local authorities, housing associations, community trusts, etc.) and enable us to gather and showcase evidence of results, positive impact and best practice. By successfully running this pilot, we can demonstrate to future clients that our support programme is flexible yet comprehensive, and offers value for money (at less than £990 per head).
We offered a taster course on Business Planning in Aug 2016 (see picture) which was well received but unfortunately, we could not deliver the complete New Horizon course programme due to lack of resources. With this funding, we can provide our full startup support experience to people who really need it!
