Wild Earth is a small social enterprise based in Scotland and operating across the UK.
We exist to find therapeutic ways to reconnect people with wild Nature. This blend of psychology, outdoor pursuits, spirituality and ecology often summed up as eco-therapy is increasingly gaining recognition with health professionals and mental health charities as a side-effect-free treatment for stress, depression and anxiety. Its power as a highly conducive container for developing personal maturity and wholeness is also now becoming well known.
Eco-therapy is both well established and well served in places like the USA, Canada and Australia but far less so here in Europe. Wild Earth has been part of the vanguard of this movement since 2010 and draws inspiration and mentoring from leading practitioners in the US.
Wild Earth is now in its 4th year and we offer a range of wilderness retreats and eco-therapy events. These include 1 & 2-day Nature & Spirituality seminars, 3-day residential Stress Reduction & Stress Management weekends, right up to the 5-day residential Art of Letting Go retreat, where people are held and supported as they make peace with deep issues from their past (read more about us at www.wildearth.org.uk).
We love what we do and the feedback we get tells us it really helps people but now we want to do more. We want to co-develop new programmes with mental health charities, work with specialists in recovery from addiction, offer profound, challenging, yet safe, vision quest retreats, and more besides.
To do those things safely and well, we have to go on developing ourselves as a team. Between us the Wild Earth guiding team already have skills and training in retreat leading, non-judgemental listening, outdoor pursuits instruction, adventure education, wilderness first aid, mental health first aid, art therapy, food hygiene and project management. But this year we have a rare opportunity to learn from one of the present day masters of eco-therapy, depth psychologist Bill Plotkin PHD. Plotkin established the world famous Animas Valley Institute (AVI) in Colorado back in 1980 and wrote the seminal works Nature & the Human Soul and Soulcraft (see www.animas.org/ ).
In August 2013 Bill Plotkin and Geneen Haugen from AVI are visiting Europe and will teach 2 courses in the UK. We want to send 2 of our guides on one of these 5 day courses, at Schumacher College in Devon (see www.schumachercollege.org.uk/)
To do that we are seeking a total investment of £2,000 to cover the course fees (2x£950) and make a contribution to the travel costs. As a small social enterprise there s no way we can raise that kind of money without you lovely crowdfunding types! So we are offering a range of unique rewards for investors the kind that you can t buy in the shops. From Wild Earth mugs and T-shirts, to downloads of my new album, 'Portfolio' (great if you like quiky blues-rock mixed with bits of Tex-Mex Bluegrass!), through to vouchers for 25% off our retreats.
The funding will really boost the strength and capabilities of our team and will be turned directly into new eco-therapy offerings, made available to people here in the UK.
So, if you want more, well-run, compassionate eco-therapy available here in these British Isles, come and invest!
We very much hope you get what we are trying to do and want to put your shoulder to the wheel and help us get Wild Earth really rolling!
All the best,
Dave and the team at Wild Earth.
