We are a group of friends who like to play short mat bowls at our activity centre in Islington. It is a great way of staying fit and healthy and also helps people who may have been feeling lonely or isolated to meet new friends and have fun. At the moment we don't have enough equipment for everyone to play at the same time and we would love to be able to join a league and have several teams competing and enjoying themselves.
In our neighbouring borough Camden, Boccia has been used successfully to get more than 40 people who previously had very little social contact back into enjoying spending time with friends. We would like to follow their lead and get as many older people in Islington as possible to have an active 2018.
Our amazing walking group, pictured above, will be joined by Age UK staff and volunteers for our sponsored walk on March 15th. We will be walking from Waterloo bridge to Tower bridge and back again, a distance of 4.1 miles. All of our regular walkers will be getting sponsored and if you would like to join us on the walk or provide sponsorship then get in touch with me on ANaylor@ageukislington.org.uk
