Thank you for taking the time to read this. I have been offered a place on the Phd course at the Tavistock and Portman NHS trust. I am wanting to research what it is that happens between men that engages men into a theraputic relationship. It is widely publicised that mental health problems in men are increasing and men are not accessing treatment due to various reasons including stigma and 'mascalinty'. However as a mental health nurse and family therapist there are men that engage in a therapeutic relationship and i am wanting to know what made the difference! The first two years of the course is to develop and complete the research proposal alongside learning about the course.
My current research title is: 'What is it that happens between men that allows men to engage into a theraputic relationship'.
I'm hoping to use video footage and interviews to explore the intial meeting and analyse what it is that happended or made a difference to the engagement. My framework is sociolinguistics (which is the study of language in relation to social factors including differences of gender). I am hoping after the first two years I will gain funding from the 'Econominic and social research council' or be in a position to self fund.
