My Father is a widower in his mid 80s, he has multiple disabilities including osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis and chronic asthma to name a few. In the last 12 months he has lost all state care ( home help etc ) due to lack of local government funds. Currently my sister is his only carer who travels 250 miles twice a week to clean his home, his clothes and bedding ( he is also incontinent ). I want desperately to support and assist my Father as well but a travel barrier stands in my way.
I live on the Isle of Man ( no I'm not a millionaire). My sole income is a pension of £550 every month. I rely solely on the Isle of Man Steam Packet Co who have a monopoly on Manx ferry crossings. Return fares vary from £175 to over £300 (depending on time of year)..
I would idealy like to spend 1 week every month with Dad but the ferry costs are now so high that twice a year is barely affordable.
Any help would be appreciated
