The Coventry Green Party began to run candidates for local elections again in 2006. We ran two general election candidates in 2010. Last year, we ran a full slate of local election candidates for the first time. We beat the Lib Dems, across the entire city, during the 2014 Euro elections.
Now, for the first time ever, we want to run three general election candidates for the Green Party in Coventry. But we need your support to raise £1000.
It is so important that we have a strong Green voice at a time when the city council is discussing how they plan to cut £24 million off their budget for 2015/2016. That would mean 1000 jobs lost, and most libraries and children's centres. Over the last year, we have campaigned:
- for a living wage for all workers in Coventry
- for safer pedestrian crossings in our campaign in Holbrooks
- for a publicly-run and publicly-funded NHS
- against greenbelt land being used for housing in the north-west of the city, and against greenbelt land used for expansion near Coventry Airport, and,
- against tuition fees (especially in a city with two universities).
Why we need your help
Coventry has 3 parliamentary constituencies. For each constituency we need a deposit of £500.
We have raised the deposit for Coventry North West.
But we're asking for £1000 for the deposits for Coventry South and Coventry North East.
The Green Party don’t have the big business backing of the four establishment parties, and refuse donations from unethical sources. We rely on our members and supporters - people like you - to make donations to fund our campaigns.
Please donate whatever you can afford towards our target of £1000. Your money will really help our campaign to reach out to more people than ever before.
If you are donating over £500, please remember you must be on the electoral register and be willing to provide your contact details to us, please do get in contact before you do.
Hitting our target will allow us to fund and deliver a city-wide election campaign. We will be able to highlight why our policies will work for Coventry and the country as a whole.
People are turning to the Green Party like never before. We’re providing a real alternative to the dominance of pro-austerity politics. With your help, The Green Party can help campaign for a fairer and more sustainable future.
How else you can help
If you feel you are not able to contribute financially, you can still help by volunteering for the campaign.
