Hi my name is Thomas Carney and I represent Great Britain for cadet boys in poomsae taekwondo. I have been training in taekwondo for 10 years and these years have been the best, each competition I have achieved something new. I am a second dan black belt. My taekwondo journey started when I was four I attnded an open day at the outdoor education centre and decided this was the sport for me. I have severe atopic eczema, asthma and severe allergies I carry an epipen I dont let any of these stand in my way and I train many hours a week even when I am not feeling 100%. I never expected to where I am today.
I have now been in the GB squad for almost a year and I love it. In november i won two gold a silver and a bronze and I now have 18 medals and a trophy. My most recent competition was the British international taekwondo poomsae championshipships it had over 520 competitors from 13 different countries world and european medalists. It was a tough competition and was very enspiring to see the other competitors. I won silver in the cadet boys team. Being part of the squad is amazing however the training and competitions are a long distance from home, and some are abroad, my next competition is in Germany. As you can appreciate this can be very expensive, my sport is self funded and I hope you can help with my dream, my ultimate goal would be to represent Great Britain in the world championships and the commonwealth games, to make this a reality I need to attend all training to improve my technique. Thankyou for taking time to read this and I hope you can help with my taekwondo jouney every little bit helps.
