We are a volunteer run English conversation club which meets on a weekly basis in Leeds city centre at Mill Hill Unitarian Chapel. We provide a secure and friendly environment in which asylum seekers and refugees can improve their English, make friends and receive help about issues pertaining to their status. We believe it is an vital service which helps vulnerable newcomers to the city to acquire the English language. The club is very well supported by both learners and volunteers and in addition a representative from the Refugee Council attends to give advice. Money raised goes towards bus fares, materials for activities, language games, trips to enhance language learning.
We recently held the Thursday meeting outside to contribute to the events commemorating Jo Cox (see photo).
