We are two students studying for an MA in Applied Theatre at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. In May, on behalf of the organisation Dialogue, we will be travelling to Addis Ababa for two months to assist drama practitioners in capturing their creative work. We plan to do this through a range of mini projects such as: filming workshops; making films and documentaries; recording interviews, storytelling, writing journals, new stories, blogs and diary entries, taking photos, creating podcasts and many other multi-media projects.
We will be working with three different theatre companies during our time in Addis Ababa:
- Fekat Circus, a circus organisation that trains young people in circus skills and operates a daily hospital outreach program for children in Addis Ababa's largest public hospital
- A dance company that works with disabled youth, youth offenders and other young people to develop their skills and promote social change
- The Ethiopian National Theatre
Dialogue's mission is to connect theatre-makers all over the world in order to share drama practice that can have universal benefits in communities. Currently, there is no offical record of any of the work that these incredible artists do and we want to change that. Like Dialogue, we believe in the right to education, international development and social change.
Whilst we have received some funding, we are still falling short of what we need to complete the project. Your donation will help us get out to Addis, contribute towards project costs and materials so that we can deliver the project as best we can! We truly believe in the value of this project, and hope you do too.
Any donations will be greatly appreciated, however big or small. Thank you so much for supporting us.
Keep your eyes peeled for our upcoming vlogs, blogs, and photos so you can keep updated with what we're doing and see where your contribtion is going!
