Benjamin Crick and Jean-Mary Myers will be getting the keys to The Anchor in Burwell, Cambridgeshire on the 26th April 2017. Benjamin is a very experienced chef and wishes to serve a fresh, seasonal and British menu to a high standard - having worked in some AA rosette restaurants and gained his own rosettes in his time - this will be an exciting change for The Anchor. Jean-Mary will be your friendly face at the front of house making everything run smoothly.
The Anchor is a beautiful characteristic pub and is the perfect place for a homely, personal dining experience and areas for cosy drinks with friends. Whilst The Anchor has a charm of it's own with a central fireplace, black beams throughout and a unique wonkiness - it is tired and needs a fresh approach.
We want to give our customers an exceptional dining experience with good quality, higher end food and provide a lovely atmosphere and clean and pleasant environment to meet with friends and family for dinner, social drinking or even pop in for a quiet drink with their dog - we still want to remain a community pub with offerings for all customers and a place to look forward to going to.
Families will be welcome too.
There will be a set lunch menu, a dinner menu, a bar snack menu and a traditional Sunday lunch menu. Some of the food you can expect to eat will be things such as: woodland mushrooms, poached egg and bearnaise; pint of prawns; Fenland onion and beer soup with a cheese toastie; free range pork and rabbit terrine; crab bisque with sweetcorn fritters; cod, curry leeks and mussels; apple tart and caramel parfait; crispy brawn with caramalised apple; beetroot terrine, goats cheese and walnuts; braised ox cheek; spiced monkfish, mussel beignets, watercress and curry veloute; rhubarb and custard; apple and blackberry crumble and of course traditional roast dinner on Sunday. These are just a small selection of examples, the final menu will be on our website when it goes live and will change weekly. Our website will be updated regularly to show the weekly menu.
We want the bar and snug area to be a place of comfort and happiness - we will be setting up a record player and a selection of records, board games, books and crafts (these will all be added in due course as we develop the pub in the first few weeks).
Likewise for the garden - Jean-Mary's mum and auntie are already growing flowers from seed to make the place look colourful and attractive, we hope to add more pots, different seating, jumbrellas and outdoor heaters.
Your pledges will mean that we can transform the kitchen and the pub into that clean, aesthetically pleasing place that you will be pleased to visit.
Your money will go towards a brand new kitchen, a whole makeover for the pub and if we hit the target - you'll be able to eat at tables, sit on chairs and eat with a knife and fork!
And lets face it - just seeing Ben and his brother Dan in a Norwich City shirt is worth every penny (see pledges)!
The Anchor as it stands now...
The Anchor has a small kitchen which is currently only equipped to serve pizzas, it needs a very good clean to bring it up to standard.
There are three different sections to the pub - a restaurant area, bar area and a cosy snug area - this makes the pub perfect for diners to enjoy their meal and social drinkers to enjoy a pleasant atmosphere on some comfortable seating.
All areas in the pub need to be cleaned and re-decorated throughout and we would like to change all the furniture to put our own personal stamp on the place.
What your pledges will do...
If we reach our initial target of £5000 we will be able to clad the kitchen walls for hygiene, buy all new cooking equipment and completely re-decorate the pub throughout.
If we exceed our target and hit £10,000 we will then have enough money to also buy new crockery, glasses and cutlery, change all the tables and chairs in the restaurant area and change some of the seating areas in the bar and snug to sofas and coffee tables and a variety of seating options for accessibility.
If we completely smash the target and hit £15,000 we will be able to fix the smokey woodburner issue and transform the patio area into a much more pleasant area to while away your summer days and warm evenings.
We both thank you in advance for your support.
Benjamin and Jean-Mary :-)
