THE CITY & THE CITY Contested Space The City and The City is an exhibition that will be held in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games. All eyes will be on London during the games, a city coming together and changing its dynamic to play host to thousands of athletes and guests. Whats more this exhibition is truly international, featuring the work of Irish, Chinese and UK artists. We feel that an exhibition which explores the role of a city, such as London, has never been more relevant. We have set up a website called the city and the city, in which we describe what we are doing and why we are doing it, in much greater detail. www.thecityandthecity.moonfruit.com The city is a place of transience. A place filled with other places, places that are absent, changing and renovated. The City has long been seen and portrayed as a place of boundless potential and strident ambition, for different people the city will mean different things and evoke different emotions. For women in particular the city has always been a contested space This is why our exhibition features the work of women artists exclusively. We would also like to use The City and The City Exhibition as an opportunity to intergrate local school children and other communiteis into our discussion about the city. We hope to run a series of workshops alongside the exhibition too. In order to make The city and The City a reality we are asking for £1000 to cover the cost of Three weeks hire at the ATP gallery in Deptford. In return for any contribution, big or small, you would receive al print of a by one of the exhibiting artists. Also, contributors will be invited to the exhibitions private view. The private view promises to be an exciting and entertaining event and a great opportunity to discuss the works with the artists. The Exhibition itself will be held at the Art in Perpetuity Trust Gallery In Deptford Creek, Greenwich, London. . It will run from the 3rd 20th May 2012.
