I'm Hannah, one of the founders of The Workshop in Bude, Cornwall. I've been a self employed artist since 2012 and while I've often thought about starting my own art club, the time has come to start working on it.
Why I need you...
For nearly two years, Rose and I have been running The Workshop; a friendly shared studio between shoemaker and artist. However, Rose is now leaving to start a family and I would like to keep the premises running and develop the studio further to give something back to the area. This is where you come in.
Having more workspace available gives me the chance to bring in fresh ideas. This funding would allow me to prepare the space ready to open the studio on a regular basis as an Art Club. With the encouragement of the community, those interested in artistic development, and some hearty Cornish support, I can get this project moving. In theory, Art Club would become my new studio partner.
What is Art Club?
For 7-14yrs. The aim of Art Club is to offer a real working studio for children to explore and increase confidence in their creativity. Art Club is not about providing a strict lesson plan, it's about giving children an opportunity to develop their own ideas. I will work with local artists who specialise in other disciplines to give the children the chance to try new materials and techniques. There will be a dedicated area in the studio for resulting artwork to be displayed. At the end of the year, I will make a little book of the artwork and the budding artists that contributed. Group sizes will be kept small and will be reasonably priced.
Funds raised would cover:
- Increased studio running costs
- Appropriate changes to the studio for Art Club
- Chairs , easels and aprons
- Art materials - paper, brushes, paint, pencils etc
- Storage for Art Club materials
- Relevant insurance and DBS
- Display board for Art Club work
- Guest Artists
A bit about me...
I'm a self taught artist, largely inspired by a bohemian upbringing and the alternative education I received at The Steiner School and The Small School. My time in the studio is divided between working on commissioned paintings and pieces for exhibition. I live by the beach with my children and a whippet. I spend as much time as I can coming up with new painting plans - never underestimate the power of daydreaming; it's where great ideas hide.
If you're not able to donate, please support the project by sharing this far and wide
Thank you x
