The Stranger State, a group of students from the University of York, are performing at the Camden Fringe for the first time. After a well received performance in York, we will be performing our newly written play at the Camden People's Theatre from 23rd-27th August. "Make Advena Great Again!” is a Trump inspired surreal sci-fi comedy murder mystery! We have big ideas, but little money, so any donation would be greatly appreciated to help our production.
About the play:
Make Advena Great Again! is a newly written, dark comedy turned murder mystery, with elements of science fiction. It's a fast-paced, surreal and comical array of sketches strung together with a wacky storyline, to poke fun at the USA's current political situation. Inspired by outrageous quotes from Donald Trump, The Stranger State use larger than life comic characters to tell their story. With distinctive neon ultraviolet visuals as well as 80s retro futuristic music, we have managed to create an absurd sci-fi murder mystery within an engrossing cartoony world.
Our commitments so far:
Performing in London is an expensive business, and there is a risk that we will not be able to cover our costs, which so far include:
- £1100 for venue hire. We will be performing at the Camden People's Theatre, a 60-seat black-box fully equiped studio theatre venue in central London. With only 25 venues available, applying for the Camden Fringe was a very competitive process and we're extremely lucky to obtain such a popular venue in such a central location, however this has come with a cost!
- £110 for marketing. We need posters and flyers to help promote our show (initial plan for 2,500 flyers, 100 A3 posters, 2 A1 posters). The more we promote our show, the more seats we can fill.
- £40 for costumes and props. We use a lot of UV facepaint!
