The idea is to create an inter-generational community performance at the Bellingham Festival on Saturday 24th June 2017. We will use music to draw people together from the diverse communities in the local area. The positive effects on wellbeing and community cohesion of singing together are well known. The rehearsals will be held in a variety of places so that they go to where people are used to meeting. The original idea emerged from the Bellingham Community Gospel Choir, which has been part of local community life since January 2014 www.bcgcsing.org
The project will consist of 7 two-hour workshops (all ages welcome) led by a professional director, ending with a performance at the annual Bellingham Festival. This is held in an area of Lewisham characterised by strong, resilient, neighbourly people.
The choir will provide their musical director Santino Fabbricatore for the project and will work with other local groups on publicity and outreach. Contacts have already been made with Phoenix Community Housing, Youth First, and the Lewisham Music Service. Christ Church United Reformed Church in Bellingham have agreed to provide the banking facilities necessary for community fundraising.
We're looking for small pledges and support, so please give thought to either coming along to some of the workshops and/or pledging support via the website. Please spread the word too - Bellingham is a place where "word of mouth" has power.
