The Stretch target is to support with the cost of relocating abroad.

Welcome to my campaign:

#ThailandToTeachingAwards

Please help a Silver Award winning teacher raise the funds to attend the National Teaching Awards 2017.

My name is Dan Simpson and I have just won a Pearson Silver Award for Teacher of the Year in a Secondary School 2017. This means that I have been shortlisted and nominated as one of six teachers in the UK who have the chance of winning the Gold Award and being named Pearson Teacher of the Year in a Secondary School 2017 at the National Teaching Awards. The Award Ceremony takes place in London on the 22nd October 2017 and will be filmed and broadcast on BBC. This is an extremely exciting opportunity and is the culmination of 6 years hard work at a difficult inner city London school.

Here is the slight problem, I have recently got a new job to teach in Thailand, which is fantastic and the start of a new adventure, will be packing up and moving there on August 14th 2017 with my newly betrothed wife. Two days before leaving for Thailand we are getting married, which we are really excited about. Therefore, you can see 2017 has been an incredible but expensive year. Therefore, as you can imagine by the time we get to Thailand we will not have the funds to fly back in October for the National Teaching Awards. That is what brings me to the amazing people at Crowdfunding in order to try to raise the £1500 (ticket for return ticket to London from Bangkok) and make this incredible achievement and dream of being nominated and invited to a glamorous awards ceremony into a reality. This would enable us to seize this opportunity of a lifetime. Any help however small or big would be really appreciated.

A bit of background about me:

Previously worked in the film Industry with Directors such as Gurinder Chadha, Bill Monahan, Richard Linklater, Lord Richard Attenborough, Joe Johnson and John Landis in camera and sound teams. However, my passion for teaching and developing young people led me first to work on outreach programmes at the University of the Arts, then becoming the Secretary of Ministry of Youth a New Cross Gate charity set up to support young people around South East London, completing my teaching course and finally gaining employment in a South East London Secondary school. Since moving into the educational sector I have never looked back.

Thank you so much for your support.  Please donate whatever you can.

Every donation of £5+ will receive a special thank you  across all my social media. Every £20 donation will receive a special posted thank you note. Any donation of £100+ if I win I will mention your name in any acceptance speech.

Cause what you are supporting:

You will be supporting the funding of two return plane tickets so that my wife and I can come back to England to attend the British National Teaching Awards with our family, for which I have been nominated for a Gold Award.  ‘All Silver Teaching Award winners are now being considered by our Judges for a Gold Plato Award.  All Silver Award winners will be invited (with guests) to the UK Teaching Awards ceremony to be held in London on 22nd October 2017… This is the ceremony that is filmed and broadcast by the BBC.’

Outside of Academia:

In addition to my pursuits as a teacher I also work closely with Tallinding Children’s Health Centre, a fantastic health charity in Gambia. I have worked with this organisation for the last few years utilising my media skill set to support them with creating promotional and informative videos in order to raise money for this fantastic cause. http://aidgambia.org.uk/

Giving Back:

Teaching media is my passion and what I live and breathe. The greatest reward you can get as a teacher is your students achieving and every year I have been lucky enough to vicariously enjoy their successes. However, being nominated for this award is the culmination of years of hard work and is probably the first and only time I will get the opportunity to be appreciated by my other professionals. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity, which I will be able to attend with your support. In the future, I aspire to ensure that all students I teach recieve the best grades and media education possible. My long term aim is to set up my own media foundation to offer full scholarships and grants to support students from under privileged backgrounds, with limited resources, but a passion for arts and desire to become film makers and media practitioners of the future.
