This past April 16th Ecuador was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake leaving over 30,000 people homeless. The families of some Ecuadorian scholars studying in Leeds were also affected by this natural disaster. As many people in the struck areas, they are living in tents.
This fundraising is for supporting these students’ families with temporary accommodation, so they can resume their daily activities and independent work.
We aim to raise 6,000 USD in order to provide 2 temporary houses which cost 2,940 USD each and whose model is showed below.
These houses will be adquired from Hogar de Cristo, an Ecuadorian Jesuit Charity who provides homes for vulnerable people since 1971 and support our campaign.
The houses we want to buy will give better protection than tents by reducing the exposition to hot weather conditions, lack of privacy and a variety of diseases.
Please help us to reach our goal and spread the word. Your contribution is extremely valuable and will help us make a difference for our beloved ones.
Who is organizing this campaign?
This campaign is being organized by the Ecuadorian students in Leeds with the support of Hogar de Cristo, Ecuador.
How we will use your contribution?
It will be used for buying two temporary homes.
If we meet our intended goal (6,000USD) your donation will be accredited into a local account in the United Kingdom owned by one of the student organizing this fundraising campaign. Then it will be transferred to the Hogar de Cristo account in Ecuador.
Once Hogar de Cristo receives the money they will build the houses that we want to provide. A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the parties to accomplish these steps and it is available under request.
