We’re looking for generous people to help fund a global system to enable scientists and non-scientists alike to engage with seagrass conservation and monitoring.
Project Seagrass is an environmental charity devoted to the conservation of seagrass ecosystems through education, influence, research and action. We run a citizen science programme (using a phone app) in the UK called Seagrass Spotter (www.seagrasspotter.org). This helps participants learn about seagrass and enables communities and stakeholder groups to monitor their local seagrass.
We wish to make this programme global and expand the capability and spatial use of this app (iphone and android). For example, a new version of our app and website would enable a scout group in Sydney, Seattle or Singapore to go out an learn about seagrass conservation.
A revised Seagrass Spotter app would be able to do the following
1) collect repeat seagrass monitoring data (e.g. % cover, shoot density)
2) operate in all countries around the world
3) include an international species ID guide that is locally applicable using geolocation
4) have an expanded breadth of information, data and guides within the website seagrassspotter.org
