Project aim
To swim the incredible elevation of Mount Kilimanjaro in a swimming pool collectively as a 5 relay teams to raise money for Future Sense and Surrey Dolphins Swimobility next year!
Total lengths needed to complete is 236 lengths of a 25m pool per team!
About the project
When and How?
The project will take place for one evening at our training pool facility. We will have the pool we use booked out for 1 hour so that gives us 4 lanes each which we can have 5-6 swimmers in each lane swimming lengths at a time.
There will be length counters on the end of each length who will count how many lengths we do. There is no limit on how many lengths, but there is a limit on time in the water which is dependent on numbers. Length counters will also have timings of each individual so when they got in and when they got out (making sure they swim only 30mins. at a time) The lanes will be divided in terms of ability (fast with fast etc.).
Why?
We aim to improve the facilities on offer for residents across Surrey with restricted mobility the opportunity to swim and exercise in a safe environment. We hope to raise money for Surrey Dolphins Swimobility which is an assisted swim charity, for more insight to what they do please follow this link: https://www.su.rhul.ac.uk/activities/club/Swimming/
To hold the event we need to pay for pool hire for as long as it takes to complete which could reach up to £300!
One of our larger events we are aiming to accomplish is climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro with a charity called Future Sense. This is to help fight against poverty, by supporting volunteer work to better community development in some of the poorest regions in the world!!
