I wanted to support my local community and facilities that myself and my family use and take up a swimming challenge to swim the length of a the channel, but in a swimming pool... first. The challenge is to to swim 22 miles within 12 weeks, which equates to 112 lengths (25m pool) a week. Additionally, I wanted to raise awareness and support for the St. John's CofE school in Stanmore and Aspire.
St. John's CofE school, is a small Christian school, where my children (aged 6 and 5) attend school. The school is an environment where my children enjoy attending school and I feel that they are supported to achieve to the best of their abilities. The staff at the school are also very attentive to the parents, as well as the students) and take time to work towards their students individual needs.
As a member of the PFA, monies have been raised to improve facilities such as the playground climbing frames, wooden houses and stage. More recently every classroom has had a visualizer installed to aid leaning for all children. Currently we are raising funds to enable the school to update the ICT facilities and a mini bus to transport students to their field trips.
Aspire provides the essential equipment, advice, housing and grants that spinal cord injured people need to live their lives independently. After all, every eight hours someone is paralysed by a Spinal Cord Injury.
Monies raised will be split equally between the organisations to support them in the great work that they do to help others achieve as much as possible.
