The project was set up in July 2017 and aims to support mothers with Mental Health conditions in Birmingham.
So far we have secured a venue within Birmingham City Centre and hold weekly support drop ins and monthly workshops with trained counsellors and life coaches to help aid recovery whilst children can participate in arts & crafts.
We are now looking to expand our services around Birmingham and ideally have workshops and drop ins on a permanent basis with the potential of having our own venue to offer a safe, friendly space for Mothers to attend whenever they feel the need to gain support and meet other Mothers in a similar situation as Mothers can become socially isolated so it is imperative to offer a place where Mothers and children can engage with others.
I have recognised the need for this service within Birmingham due to the demand of Mothers that need the support and have recognised the need of these Mothers as I've been running the service since July.
My aims are to;
Eliminate social isolation.
Offer a support service.
Sign post Mothers on to relevant support agencies.
Liaise with agencies/charities to help gain support for Mothers.
Create a safe and friendly environment for Mums and children to bond and impact the future generation.
Help to reduce the need for social service/primary care envolvement (as Mothers will gain social skills/bonding with their children and learn to manage their Mental Health conditions through peer support and workshops)
Overall there is a need for this service in Birmingham and I'm hoping to gain support with this.
