ULTRA magazine is the UK's only print journal dedicated to the sport of ultra running, an 'ultramarathon' defined as any distance longer than a marathon. The community is small but fabulous, friendly and welcoming, and disparate - you'll find ultra runners in all corners of the UK, across Europe and the rest of the world.
Over its six issues to date ULTRA has developed into a small but important part of the community; a publication developed, written and illustrated by members of the community. It's a place where ultra runners can share stories of their adventures and experiences, the highs and the lows of these special runs and races in some of the UK's and the world's most beautiful locations. As we share stories our small community grows stronger.
But, Issue 7 almost didn’t make it. We were hit by some issues beyond our control a few months ago, just before going to press, and it’s taken time to deal with them. It’s taken patience, resolve, and energy too. This has felt like a test of endurance. I guess if these traits are required to deal with a problem, then ultra runners are well-equipped to deal with them. It's also taken a great deal of money to rescue the situation, and we really need to try to claw some of that back. We are grateful to everyone who has been in touch already and offered to assist with the costs, but they only go so far.
We came up with the idea of a crowd fund to offer some nice ULTRA-related things in return for some cash to help the magazine through this difficult time. There are so many deserving causes out there, so please do carefully consider if you wish to support this appeal or not. Thanks again to everyone who has offered their support over the last few months.
