Strange Creature Pet Shop

A Community project Shoreham-by-Sea

3 artist led pop up making spaces across Adur for the duration of the festival supported by local artists.

Artsworkshops deliver creative projects with families and community groups, Theatres, schools, nurseries and Children & Family Centres; with a specific focus on delivering creative work with disabled children and their families. The Strange Creature Pet Shops project will employ 17 local and national artists including puppeteers, set builders, visual artists and writers, and aims to deliver a brilliant FREE community activity to over 6,000 Adur residents. There are many weeks of planning involved and a brilliant team working hard to bring it together. With your support, this project can engage families across the district and perhaps even enthuse and enable a new generation of artists and makers! With support from The Adur Festival, The Ropetackle trust, Warwick Baker, Emmaus Homeless Charity and Albion in the Community, an exciting plan is taking shape. We have a range of visiting artists, Including illustrator Layn Marlow, song writer, Tom Cook and Long Nose Puppets. You can also meet our eccentric Pet Shop Owners who will be bringing the Creatures to life every weekend. In a Strange Creature Pet Shop, everyone is an artist. Using materials donated by local businesses, and with the help of a professional artist, you can create your very own Strange Creature. Your Creature will be exhibited in the shop for the festival and will feature on the 'Creature Wall of Fame'. It will then be ready for collection to be cared for at home as a pet. Each of the 3 shops will be open 5 days a week and everyone is welcome. Special events will be arranged throughout the 2 weeks with some structured sessions which will be advertised on the Adur Festival website

Further information about each shop will be printed in the Adur Festival brochure which will be hand delivered to 25,000 homes across Adur. It will also be advertised on the Artsworkshops facebook pageThe £1000 we raise from this crowdfunder bid, will pay for some of our art resources, the materials and a set builder to fit out the shops, 3 visiting artists, insurance and CRB checks for the project.Further funding will pay for Professional Community Artists to run the shops, Advertising, Professional Actors to perform every weekend, the overall management of the project, signs for the shops and any further materials required, and all of the documentation to record the project. Documenting this project will help with a continuation of this and other projects funding.
