Today, in India, girls and women are discriminated against and murdered, just because they are female. More girls and women have been discriminated against and killed in the past century than any other modern-day genocide. The problem of gendercide goes as far as sex-selective abortions (feticide), killing new born babies if they are female (infanticide) and trafficking. The aim of this project is to spread awareness and to raise funds to help the charity towards finding missing girls and supporting those that are rescued and orphaned as a result.
The invisible girl project has supported the rescue of over 200 young girls and provides them with;
- A safe home with a lovely garden, play area and a large, newly built dormitory;
- Three square meals a day;
- Support from care-givers 24 hours a day;
- A social worker to help provide mental health-care needs.
But this is still not enough and we would like to help do more! In this day and age it is extremely difficult to hear that families will kill their new born child purely because of it's gender. It may be difficult to fully stop this cultural behaviour altogether, however we need to continue spreading the word about this problem and atleast try to save those that are at risk or have already been effected.
