New stretch target
We have had so many generous donations!!! Thanks everyone!! This is tremendous!!
We are setting a new goal of funding for 3 more months. If we raise £1,200.00 that will be 6 months of funding for our van.
What is Stoke-on-Trent foodbank and what do we do?
Stoke-on-trent foodbank's aim is "The prevention and relief of poverty in Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding area". Like other Trussell Trust foodbanks, we provide 3 days' emergency food to local people in crisis. Both individuals and families of all sizes can receive this support, and crises range from a sudden loss of employment or a bereavement to an unexpected household cost or domestic violence. People in need are referred to us by a range of agencies including health, social care and voluntary sector organisations.
Our Guests don't just receive a food parcel. They are warmly welcomed when they arrive at one of our distribution centres, and offered a hot drink. Our trained Volunteers are then on hand to chat with our Guests and help signpost them to any appropriate organisations who can aid our Guests in their specific crisis situation.
Where does the van come in?
It would be near impossible to achieve any of this without our van. We were able to purchase it with funds provided by 'Big Lottery Reaching Communities' and it now averages 490 miles a month. Both our part-time Warehouse Assistants and our Volunteers drive the van across the City to our 17 distribution centres in order to re-stock each centre and collect donations. The van is also integral in supermarket food drives, as without it we would struggle to transport the generous donations that we are given back to the warehouse. Even with our partners like the YMCA, Rotary Club and Keir still helping us with our supermarket collections.
The van costs £200 a month to run. This figure breaks down to £100 spent on fuel; £40 spent on insurance and £60 on MOT, road tax, servicing and repairs. We are crowdfunding in order to secure funding for running the van for 3 months which amounts to £600.
Please help us to continue the work that we do. From 1st April 2014 to 31st March 2015 10,372 people have been fed by Stoke-on-Trent foodbank, of which 3,973 were children. This wouldn't have been possible with out our van.
