ST@MP- STOP TELEPHONE AND TEXT MARKETING POLICIES.
ST@MP AIMS TO CHANGE CURRENT POLICIES REGARDING PEOPLES PRIVACY & THE NUISANCE OF COLD CALLS & TEXTS.
Every year in the UK we are bombarded with 9 billion nuisance marketing calls for anything from PPI debt recovery, pension reviews, industrial deafness, accident calims and surveys.
In 2015 only 278,000 people called lodged a complaint with the ICO (the Information Comissioners Office -the government body tasked with managing nuisance calls.)
In the same year the IOC fined companies a total of £1,135,000
One company which made 46 million calls was fined £350,000 the largest fine ever but that equates to 0.8p per call and the company folded before paying the fine. Some people where called 15 times a day. Only 1100 people complained!!!
We feel there are a few issues,
1: People aren't complaining because the process and multiple form filling is too time consuming and offputting one for TPS (telephone preference service)one for ICO one to offending Company etc. This obviously hides the real scale of the problem as these bodies judge it on the number of complaints received.
2: TPS which aims to prevent these calls is misdirecting its power, if your on the list companies shouldn't call you, simple, but not all companies register to access the list of members because it costs £3000 a year!!!
ST@MP feels it should be free but made compulsary for any company that contacts people for marketing to screen the data against registered TPS lists and any deviation should carry a small mandatory fine without exception,10p for example unless they can prove the person opted to receive the call, remember there were 9,000,000,000 in 2015!!!
The good guys screen the numbers its the bad ones that don't.
The aim of ST@MP is to simplify the complaining procedure, you tell us via the website using one simple form and we'll scream from the rooftops to everyone that needs to be told. When the relevent bodies start to be inundated with complaints they might take notice and rethink. We will only charge a nominal fee for this hopefully £1 a month to cover the costs of staffing and running the business. It is designed as a platform for change and if all goes well the company will have no purpose eventually as the message has got through and the government have addressed the problem and we all get a bit of peace.
We also have a proven system of seeking recourse from the company if the person wishes to make them pay themselves for intruding on their privacy, on average the compensation is over £500. We will assist anyone wishing to take this course of action with step by step information and editable templates of the necessary correspondence.
We are asking the people of Crowdfunder to help. The money will be used to develop a website to assist with the campaign and process complaints, hopefully later an app could be developed to simplify the system even more.
PLEASE HELP IF YOU WANT IT TO STOP AND SIGN OUR EPETITION TO PARLIMENT.
