Secure enough funding to enable me to open a new permanent Post Office in Stithians following the closure of their previous one in July
About the project
Stithians is a rural village community in West Cornwall with a population of over 2000. It currently has no post office. Back in June the owners of the post office decided it was not financially viable due to their staffing set up and future plans for their store, so they handed in their notice to the PO.
The PO is an essential part of any community. It is far more than simply a place to post a letter. It offers a service to its community. A place for elderly to come and chat. For children to visit and feel safe, and for new people to the area to come for help and advice.
The Po closed some three weeks ago, and the village really is in a great state of flux with people travelling all around an icornwall to access a local PO, and feeling quite up rooted and lost.
i have run a neighbouring PO for the last few years, and know first hand the importance it has in a rural community. I have been asked by the PO to run an out reach unit 8 hrs a week in the local village hall. This is not going to come close to meeting the needs of this village.
I have found an ideal empty commercial unit in Stithians for sale, which I would like to buy and offer the people of Stithians a hub and some cohesion to their village again.
Due to to my shop suffering serious flooding in the December 2013 floods, I have incomplete account figures, so it is proving impossible to find a bank to support me, even though my shop is doing very well.
So my only hope at this time is to reach out to crowdfunder for support to enable me to secure this premise and offer the community of Stithians the PO they deserve.
