Why we need your help

Bury Independents rely on small donations from individuals like you. We don't have the big business or trade union cash the mainstream political parties can count on.

You can help us achieve the changes we all care about by standing for election, delivering leaflets, canvassing voters or making phone calls. But you can also help by making a donation.

Your donation will make a real difference. For example,  £50 would pay for a leaflet on a local issue delivered by volunteers to 1,000 homes: a real boost.

Donate to Steve and Bury Independents today

Even if this is a one-off donation, we prefer donations by Direct Debit. Donating is a simple online process and there are no forms to sign. Fees are lower which means more of your money goes where it's needed. Your payment is protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee.

Please consider making a donation TODAY. Only by working all year round will we ensure that Bury Independents can win next time.

Here are some examples of what your gift could do to help win:

  • £10 will pay for a leaflet for 500 houses
  • £25 will buy 2,000 newspapers
  • £50 pays for a dozen super-size election garden posters
  • £100 will fund leaflets for an entire ward
  • £250 will pay for 10,000 addressed letters to be delivered by volunteers

Remember, we need the help of local supporters so that we can compete with the millions that fund Labour and the Conservatives.

Who is allowed to donate to us?

  • Donations to political parties, including sponsorship, are regulated by the Political Parties Elections and Referendums Act 2000.
  • Anybody can donate up to £500 in any one calendar year. Bury Independents can only accept donations over £500 from
    • permissable donors
      • Permissible donors are: individuals on a UK electoral register (excluding the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man), UK Trade Unions, companies incorporated within the EU and registered and trading in the UK, Limited Liability Partnerships, UK unincorporated associations and UK building or friendly societies.

  • If you make donations to Bury Independents totalling more than £1,500 in any calendar year, we are required to report them to the Electoral Commission, who, depending on the amount, may
    • publish the fact that you have donated to us
      • Donations of more than £7,500 from the same donor to Bury Independents in a calendar year are required to be reported to the Electoral Commission. This applies to single donations of more than £7,500 or cumulative smaller donations which exceed £7,500 in the calendar year. The threshold for public disclosure of donations to local parties (including English regions, Scotland & Wales) is £1,500.

The name and address of the donor and the amount of the donation will be published on the Electoral Commission website. Addresses of individuals are not published.
