We are trying to raise money to provide sports activities exclusively for children aged 6-10, who suffer with type 1 Diabetes in Merseyside. The sessions are designed to provide a safe and secure environment for children to come along and have some fun whilst learning some new sports, we also want to show sufferers of type 1 that they can take part in activity like anybody else. Showing these children how to control blood sugars while taking part in activity is very important, and that is what we want to get across during these sessions.
A lot of T1 children find it hard to take part in sports for various reasons, most notably, they do not like to feel that everyone is looking at them whilst they do their blood sugar checks. This will not be a problem at these sessions as everyone will be doing the same. Hopefully this will make children feel more at ease and help them overcome that barrier.
We are looking to provide a room for family and friends to come along and have a chat with others who are in the same situation. Being a parent of a type 1 diabetic, I understand the impact it has on the lives of parents and other family members, and want to give you somewhere to come and have a chat whilst your children are playing sports.
Type 1 diabetes is an auto immune disease. There is nothing you can do to prevent it and it can happen to anyone. It does not make you any different to anyone else.
Your money will help go towards the cost of venue hire and sports coaches
The project will be Merseyside wide so there will be plenty of places for you to bring your children along.
Please help us make this project happen, we would be greatly appreciative of any funding and thank you in advance.
