Skin Camouflage Consultations For Scarring

Skin Camouflage Consultations For Scarring

Please help me raise money to set up a clinic offering FREE skin camouflage consultations for scarring & other visible skin conditions.

Unfortunately, this project was not successful
My name is Jayne and my mission is to set up a service based within the North Yorkshire region for people with a wide range of skin conditions including scars where they can receive a FREE training on skin camouflage.
For the past 7 years I have worked as a mental health practitioner within the NHS and grown to learn has severely a person’s confidence and self-esteem can be affected as a result of certain visible skin conditions.
These can include:
  • Acne erythema and scarring
  • Cleft lip
  • Discoid lupus erthematosus
  • Freckles
  • Flushing and blushing
  • Kaposi’s sarcoma
  • Leucoderma (hypo-pigmentation)
  • Melasma (also known as chloasma)
  • Neurofibromatosis (café au lait marks)
  • Plaque psoriasis
  • Port wine stains
  • Rosacea
  • Age spots
  • Spider naevus
  • Stretch marks
  • Thread veins
  • Vitiligo
  • Xanthelasma
Scarring as a result of;
  • Accident
  • Act of violence
  • Burn injury
  • Result of skin condition
  • Resulting from disease
  • Self-harm
  • Skin graft
  • Surgical procedure
Other reasons;
  • Radiographer’s markings
  • Decorative tattoos
Research shows that anxiety levels are higher in those who have a problem with their skin, with up to 1/3 of people reporting they have suffered from psychological distress including:
-          Rejection & isolation
-          Intrusive & inappropriate questions
-          Unwarranted stares or comments
-          Name-calling & verbal abuse
Camouflage makeup doesn’t alter the structure or function of the skin- but it does help people regain their self-esteem & confidence. This does much to improve their general wellbeing and help them return to normal family life, social & sporting activities as well as employment.
At present there is one main fantastic charity that offer the same service across the country, however at present they have waiting lists of up to 10 months. As well the majority of their clinics are further down south and so less coverage around the North Yorkshire region.
In a perfect world we would hope that no one would be judged or ridiculed for the way they look but until that day comes I hope that I can in some way help others feel more comfortable with day to day life.
