 New stretch target

We have a chance of exceeding our target substantially. This could mean we can extend our services to help folk who might not be able to get to shops etc. We can offer our services to the local medical practice( if they are agreeable) to deliver prescriptions for people who can't get there easily to collect. (Free of any charges from us). We can do all of this and much more if the pledges keep coming and we get an even better van than we had dreamed off. We are ordinary folk who can do so much to help our fellow citizens and home and abroad. Given half a chance. Thank you!

Project aim

We aim to purchase a Delivery Van to offer an alternative to the big Supermarket chains who send several vans to the area every day.

About the project

Shawbost Shop and cafe is situated on the West Side of the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland. It is a small rural community with a big heart. The shop has become a vital community link but having started with no grants and no funding or financial assistance of any sort, we want to take it to the next level.. We are building the business bit by bit. Tesco and other big supermarkets, currently send several delivery vans to the area each day. We are not in any way saying people should not shop at Tesco and others because we all do. However, it seems like unfair competition to us. Imagine if we were to put a mobile shop outside Tesco's. I think their vast resources would mean we would be contacted by their legal team very quickly.lol. Tescos Stornoway store is 20 miles from here.

We would very much like to offer another option and this project is being launched to see if we can raise £5,000 from you, the public, towards the purchase of a large delivery van of our own. This would serve communities where there is no shop. However, we will not seek to compete with any independent, established businesses. The van will also be avialbale to events, where a mobile shop is required. We are a friendly and flexible business, there will be a very low minimum purchase and get this, if you phone because you have run out of something, 9 times out of 10 we will be able to take it to you.

If our target is exceeded, we will use any extra funds to offer a variety of other services ,not currently available to our customners. In exchange for your help, we offer a range of rewards but also this journey of ours is going to be a lot of fun and we will keep you updated, day by day.

If you want to give the Little Guys a chance to take on the big guys, then please consider helping us out.

Thank You!
