At the end of May, I and a group of students will be travelling to Zambia to help raise awareness around safer sex and HIV transmission.
The money raised will pay for the equipment needed, such as male and female condoms, sexual education aides like condom demonstrators as well as general items such as clothing. Any extra money raised will help fund my flights and accommodation.
By 2013, around 1.1 million people in Zambia were living with HIV, including 15,000 children living with the virus. Condom programmes and HIV education are vital in ensuring that people are able to protect themselves. HIV education aims to combat the myths and misconceptions that surround the virus, and help to empower individuals to make safer choices when with all sexual partners. By combatting the social and cultural barriers and improving resources, we aim to help reduce transmission of HIV and reduce the number of people who develop AIDS as a result.
