I have the opportunity to purchase the lease on some land near my home to start to expand my behive colony.
At present I have two beehives and want to expand to have a total of 14 hives. The land I wish to lease is next to a local fishery and the owner has no use for the land available and is willing to lease it to me for my enterprise at a reduced rate of 2000 pounds per acre and there is 2 acres available.
I have two hives at present and I have just started out recovering swarms from peoples properties and splitting hives to get nucleus hives.
From the two hives I have now I will have the 14 I need in three years time. Honey from my hives is going to a few local businesses, a farm shop and two local natural food shops and any surplus honey will be sold at local farmers markets.
As people are no doubt aware, bees in the UK are almost critically endangered and I want to try to get beehive colonies in my area expanded by leasing this land, getting into a decents state and getting the apiary up to strength. The hives I can get fairly cheaply from various outlets, eBay etc and it is money for the leasing of the land is what I need to get this enterprise on the move. In total the enterprise will cost 5000 pounds with the extra 1000 pounds being the purchase of new hives and equipment hire to clear the land of the mass of weeds and the dense tangle of undergrowth.
