Project aim

We would like support for the on-going work enabling and empowering people with learning disabilities to have more control in their lives. Through donations made to Self Advocacy in Action we will be able to run more self advocacy sessions and activities and enable more people with learning disabilities to have a voice.

About the project

We are an independent and user-led organisation of people with learning difficulties/disabilities. We set up 1987, we have 28 years worth of experience supporting adults with learning disabilities to develop their self advocacy skills.

We work with other people with learning disabilities to enable them to speak up about the things that matter in their lives. We have done this in many different ways over the years - running groups, conferences, self advocacy sessions and activities. We always look at the best way we can support people according to their needs and by overcoming barriers.

Self Advocacy in Action look at and address things that matter to people with learning disabilities through training. We look at health, relationships, independence, safeguarding and much more. We have also supported members of our Management Committee to acheive nationally recognised qualifications. Some of the members achieved an NVQ in Business and Administration and use these skills to contribute to the running of the service.

We try to reach people from all over, although we work primarily in Leicester, Leicestershire and Derbyshire supporting people with learning disabilities.

We pride ourselves on enabling people with learning disabilities to be more independent and to have more control in their lives, to continue to do this we need your help.
