Harnessing the power of music and film to inspire action around marine plastic pollution.

KRILLIANT NEWS! THANK-YOU SO MUCH ... AND PLEASE KELP ME KEEP UP THE PLAICE FOR ONE MORE DAY!

Reaching £7,000 will allow me to build the Seas Initiative website: a place for best practice, solutions and information for schools and an online hub for all things relating to cleaner seas! This will make a huge difference to the lifespan of the project: how it connects to the wider marine plastic solutions community, to Bristol 2015 European Green Capital and of course for future Seas Initiative creative campaigns!

AND, in the bizarre but imaginable event that I reach £11,000, I shall be joining eXXpedition in November: An all women’s voyage across the Atlantic to make the unseen seen, from the toxics in our bodies to the toxics in our seas! Their mission is to explore the issue of plastics in our personal and global environment that can cause disease, in particular raising awareness of those linked to the rise in breast cancer rates. Their aim is to engage women in scientific narratives relating to the consumer choices they make, and their long-term health impacts on themselves and our environment.

Along the eXXpedition voyage the crew will sample the Atlantic Ocean for plastics and pollutants, feeding in these samples to wider studies investigating the impacts of toxics and plastics pollutants linking this sampling to narratives of ecosystem health, personal health and the products we consume.

SO PLEASE KEEP SHARING, KEEP PLEDGING ... EVERY PLEDGE MAKES A POSITIVE IMPACT ON CLEANER, HEALTHIER SEAS! THANK-YOU!

Let's make a song and dance about marine plastic pollution.

If you love the sea, if you love our coastlines and especially if you love all the creatures that depend on the health of our oceans, I would love your help to protect them.

THE PROBLEM

One of the most serious threats to the health of the ocean and the life it supports is plastic pollution. It makes up for around 90% of all rubbish floating in the sea, with an estimated 46,000 pieces of plastic per square mile.

The trouble is, it doesn't go away. It slowly breaks into smaller and smaller pieces and will float around for hundreds of generations to come. And the tragedy lies not just on the beaches now covered in plastic debris, but deep in the bellies of our birds and fish.

We need a game change. We need to think and act differently about everyday plastics. We need to stop polluting our seas and start restoring them. But how to do it?

THE PLAN

Instead of spending my days down on the riverbanks picking up plastic litter, I'd like to put my songwriting and filmmaking talents to better use! Through the power of a great song and a stunningly beautiful music video I can reach thousands upon thousands of people - people who might have never even thought about about the effect that single-use plastics have on the environment.

I'm launching the project, SeasInitiative, on June 8th, World Oceans Day.  After our Crowdfunder campaign and once the song and film are produced (August 2014) it'll be time to spread the word. I'll mobilise my world-wide network of friends, businesses, environmental charities and media contacts to propel the film far and wide across the internet, inspiring new audiences around the globe to think and ACT differently when it comes to our use of everyday plastics.

THE PEOPLE

I'm Natalie Fee, a songwriter, author, presenter, performer and producer with over ten years experience working on environmental and well-being creative projects. For this project however, I need a great team to make it happen! Which is why I'm collaborating with an award-winning environmental filmmaker, Verity White, and one of Bristol Old Vic's best-loved composers, Benji Bower, to produce the song and film.

THE PITCH

The £5000 we need to raise to make this happen will go into the production of the song and video. If we overfund we'll be furthering our outreach into local schools and building the SeasInitiative website: a place for creative ideas, solutions and best practice for living a life with less plastic!

And guess what? I am proud to be the first Crowdfunder campaign to accept Bristol Pounds! Unfortunately, Crowdfunder cannot (yet) support direct donations in Bristol Pounds. BUT! You can still make an offline donation to my £B account, and I will transfer the equivalent funds to the Crowdfunder. Simply donate via TXT2PAY or online transfer using the username: natalief

THE PROMISE

We all know marine plastic pollution is an ugly problem, but if you help us we promise to deliver a film that shines! For helping us, you get rewards! Have a look at the list alongside and climb onboard our SponsorShip!

There are many different ways I'll thank you - from signed books and digital downloads of the song and exclusive films, to private gigs or talks, a chance to come along to the film set ... there are even opportunities to add your company or charity logo to the film!

Also, once the song is produced, we'll be making a charity donation. 15% of proceeds from future song downloads will go to the awesome marine litter campaigns team at Surfers Against Sewage

THE PERSONAL THANK-YOU!

However you feel you can support the campaign, whether it's a donation or simply your help sharing and spreading the word ... thank-you! Please connect with me on twitter at @nataliefee and share the campaign! We'll be using the hashtags #seasinitiative and #oceanplastic to help spread the word!

And, if you'd like to start sharing ideas with Seas Initiative, come and join our open group on facebook
