I am a Scottish Gypsy Traveller and proud of it. In 2003 I was given a Millennium Award to paint and draw my community, family, history and culture. Now, in order to raise both awareness and funds for a great cause, I want to reproduce these paintings as a 2013 calendar the proceeds of which will go towards the foundation of a Scottish Gypsy Traveller Cultural Centre in Scotland. This centre will be unique in the UK. The concept of the foundation of a Cultural Centre for SGT was fully endorsed by the Equal Opportunities Committee of the Scottish Parliament as far back as March 2008 and continues to be so. For this reason we seek to open and establish a vibrant SGT cultural centre in Perth, Scotland that can stand as a shining example in the whole of the UK for cross cultural peace and understanding in the battle against racism and discrimination. These aims can only be achieved by interactive, interracial oral and visual communication and the promotion of practical skill sharing and outreach awareness raising sessions to schools, health practitioners and education colleges, unions, church groups, mothers and toddlers as well as teenagers and OAPs. It is envisaged to open an office, with access to IT and printing facilities, that primarily manages educative and practical workshops, art classes and exhibitions, guided tours, a Summer School, and film/photography/video presentations that would take place mostly offsite in (hired for the purpose) community centres and church halls throughout the regions.
