Scarlett died suddenly at the age of 40, without life cover and estranged from her natural family. She suffered from mental health problems for most of her life and was in a mental health hospital in Wales at the time of her death.
Scarlett relied heavily on certain key people during her life, the most faithful of whom have been Rona and Tony Gibb. 'Auntie' Rona, as Scarlett would call her, is 74 and has been almost completely blind since birth. Her husband, Tony, is 93. They have supported Scarlett since she was a child (over 30 years), helping her when she lived in the community and visiting her in mental health hospitals all over the country.
The full cost of Scarlett's funeral has fallen to Rona, who wanted to bring Scarlett's body back home to Devon. She hoped to get some financial assistance but, sadly, this has not been possible. We want to bless Rona by raising funds towards the cost of Scarlett's funeral.
Any surplus money will be given to Compass Braille, a registered charity that produces braille bibles and other literature for blind people in third world countries. Rona and Tony Gibb helped to set up Compass Braille in their younger years. More details about the charity can be found here: Compass Braille
